About
Our Goals
This is a new type of history. This is the raw, human side of living that is not captured in the history books. This is more than a written record, it's a community built around living life.

This is a place to preserve your memory, share your stories, be known to future generations, learn from the experiences of others, and significantly connect with people on a deeper level.

Make yourself known, The Human Known Project

Community

Community is an important part of The Human Known Project for two reasons.

First, the resources that we collect, archive, and make available are contributed by the world community. Everyone is free and encouraged to share their stories.

Second, The Human Known Project strives to be more than a static resource. The Human Known Project is about people, and part of that is allowing people to connect with new people all around the world through shared or interesting experiences. When you come across a story or group that inspires you, get in touch with the author, start a discussion, ask for advice and information.

Stories are what bond us, in life we make connections with people over shared experiences; whether it's last nights baseball game or suffering from a medical ailment. Human kind is a community of storytellers, we do it all the time without realizing it. The Human Known Project is the extension of that community to a world wide stage.

Research

In 1990 the Human Genome Project was launched to further the understanding of the human make up by close examination of our genetics. In 2003 the project was deemed completed and the human code had been broken.

In 2007 the complimentary Human Known Project was launced to provide a resource for furthering the humanities, history, psychology, sociology, and the social sciences. The Human Known Project is an ambitions goal to collect human words and memories so that we can better know ourselves and our societies.

The Human Known Project creates a historical record known as "history from below." This new history is based on the perspectives of every person, that there is no insignificant view, and that history is not just a series of "important" events about "important" people.

Sacred Knowledge

Knowledge is sacred. The things we know most are the things that we experience and that we hear from others. The Human Known Project is about keeping this sacred knowledge secure and available.

The stories and experiences that we have, as humanity, are lost every second. Oral tradition is how these stories are preserved and, unfortunately, many times these stories go untold, are forgotten, or are changed. The Human Known Project is the place to store this knowledge for today and for future generations.

The widsom we gain from each other can affect us deeply. With oral tradition we are limited to our geography, to those in our immediate vicinity. The Web is a place where we can seek knowledge and information beyond our geographic bounds. The Human Known Project is a place where the stories of our lives are stored, the most significant type of information.

Families

Families are an important source of personal identity, knowledge, and values. Research tells us that even more than passing along money, people want to have the stories and values passed from parent to child.

The Human Known Project is a catalyst for families to collect, store, and share the stories, experiences, and values of their elders. Family members can preserve the history of their elders for themselves, their children, and future generations while also contributing to a larger effort.
